Let’s start with the alternative names first. Paxolin sheets are variously referred to as SRBP (synthetic resin bonded paper) sheets. Less commonly they can be referred to as Pertinax sheets, Hylam sheets, fibre sheets or Bakelite sheets. Regardless of what they are known as, their use to those in electrical installation work is not in doubt.
Paxolin sheets are a resin impregnated laminate material that are designed to be strong insulators, used for their mechanical and electrical insulating properties in a wide variety of low-voltage environments. They are an inexpensive method of providing lightweight yet rigid electrical insulation. In essence, they provide strength and rigidity in a non-metallic form.
Paxolin sheets have a variety of uses. They can be used to support electrical installations such as busbars and cables, or they can form the basis of a printed circuit board. These rigid plates can be machined into different configurations to be used as insulating spacers and base plates. They are suitable for hot punching.
